2019 San Diego Comic-Con Report

I can’t believe this was the 50th San Diego Comic-Con, and my EIGHTEENTH year of exhibiting! And, while I didn’t exceed my record sales from last year, there were a lot of things that made this particular year particularly special.

Firstly, my good friend and fellow kidlit author/illustrator, Kaz Windness, who was debuting her convention exclusive edition of Mother Goth Rhymes, invited me to participate in a panel about horror in comics, which was great fun! (It sold out!)

Secondly, there were fun meals with friends almost every night!

Thirdly, although revenues weren’t up, I was extremely happy to say that I sold 37 copies of There’s a Zombie in the Basement this year (not to mention almost 200 buttons and stickers)! Don’t forget to post a review of it on Goodreads or Amazon! If you pre-ordered a 3rd edition copy, I will keep you posted on it. Right now, I’m being told they should be shipped sometime in mid-August (when I will contact you to ask you who you would like me to sign the book to), and don’t forget that I can do a reading and interactive monster drawing demo at school visits!

Of course, I don’t want to understate how great my caricature customers were this year! I had so much fun drawing them! I received 40 zombie, pony, and other types of commissions this weekend (62 subjects), I finished 31 (50 subjects), and will attempt to finish and ship the remaining drawings to folks over the next two weeks in 2 separate shipments. If you commissioned a drawing from me and haven’t received it yet this how I plan to do things: If your invoice number is below 2176, I hope to finish (if I haven’t already) and ship your drawings by this weekend. If your invoice number is 2177 or higher the weekend after.

I will upload blocks of images as I finish them to the above gallery, so if you’re wanting to be surprised, don’t peek. If you don’t see your illustration above: 1) I haven’t completed it yet, 2) You didn’t elect to consent to allow me to use your image online or via social media or 3) Both. If you change your mind and DO want to let me post your image, simply message me to change your election.
