Only 89 pages to go! I will continue to add new pages to the project page so you can read them in sequence here.
Here is the planning page, which I prepare on Photoshop, print and lightbox onto the watercolor paper:
This was produced from this original script page:
PAGE TWELVE
PANEL 1.
Image of Bryan in a hospital bed banging on the nurse’s call button like a video game, while the TV is on (perhaps Weeds, or some other drug-based show).
CAP:
Over the intervening week, Bryan got a second, more painful stent, but basically just hung out and watched TV while going on what he described as a “morphine bender.”
BRYAN:
Damn it! Who does someone have to blow to get some smack around here?!
PANEL 2.
Close up of my face looking distraught.
CAP:
Meanwhile, the doctors discussed sending him to hospitals in LA, Arizona, or San Francisco to see if he could get on a transplant list, and supposedly to get a second opinion. Bryan informed us that apparently, hospitals in Nevada don’t do transplants, since malpractice settlements aren’t capped. So, I guess doing them is not a good GAMBLE.
ME [T]:
“Now ev’ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin’… Is knowin what to throw away and knowing what to keep… ‘Cause ev’ry hand’s a winner and ev’ry hand’s a loser… And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.”
