Once again, I've been slacking on my intended update schedule for this newsletter, but I was running the RMC-SCBWI's Letters & Lines children's book conference a few weekends ago and the Sunday Ha Ha was on hiatus, so there wasn't any new Peter Cadaver content for a couple of months. But, I'm aiming to have monthly editions going forward. Make sure to share this with your friends and enemies who you think might have a secret morbid curiosity about me. The next event I'll be at will be the Grand Lake Pumpkin Patch on Friday, October 13th. I'll be doing zombie caricature commissions from 2-4 pm and again from 6-9 pm, a reading and signing of my bedtime storybook, THERE'S A ZOMBIE IN THE BASEMENT at 4-5 pm (or 3 pm according to this flyer).

These are the strips from September.

The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang

My complete rough dummy is now with the production editor, so while I wait for continuity notes, I decided I needed to continue working on the Salem Charter Academy submission packet, a middle grade graphic novel that lives in the same world as my weekly Peter Cadaver comic strip. Fortunately for me, my amazing agent, Ann Rose at the Tobias Literary Agency hosted her clients at the Rosebud Writer's Retreat. I made a video to show you what it was like. It was incredibly productive, as I was able to firm up my synopsis so I could finish up my sample art for my submission shortly after returning.

If you're on Goodreads, do me a favor and make sure to add THE MANY MISFORTUNES OF EUGENIA WANG to your WANT TO READ list!

Would you like to see some sample work from some of my students?

There's a Zombie in the Basement

In expectation of the upcoming release of a special 4th edition of THERE'S A ZOMBIE IN THE BASEMENT, I started asking parents to send me their kids' monster drawings.

Okay, so I've already started slacking on my intended update schedule for this newsletter, but I was at Fan Expo Denver two weekends ago managing the RMC-SCBWI booth, moderating two panels, and doing a reading of THERE'S A ZOMBIE IN THE BASEMENT (when I'd originally planned on doing this), which I've documented in this edition! Make sure to share this with your friends and enemies who you think might have a secret morbid curiosity about me. Sign up for regular updates via my contact form.

The next event I'll be at will be the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators's (RMC-SCBWI) 2023 Letters & Lines Conference. I'm not on the faculty this year, but I'll be introducing speakers and signing books during the Dessert First mixer on Saturday afternoon. If you'd like to know more about this, go to scbwi-rmc.org. Discounted early bird registration continues through July 17th!

These are the strips from June. The Sunday Ha Ha will be featuring reruns through the end of August when I plan to resume with new strips.

The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang

I've since gone through one more short round of revisions and hopefully I'll be able to start doing the tight pencils shortly. If you're on Goodreads, do me a favor and make sure to add this book to your WANT TO READ list!

There's a Zombie in the Basement

As I'd mentioned in my introduction, I attended Fan Expo Denver with the RMC-SCBWI, but got an opportunity to do a reading and interactive monster drawing demo on the All-Ages Stage in the Kid's Lab.

I'm excited to be a part of the Denver Fan Expo in a little different capacity than I normally have been at conventions over the last 20 years. I'll be running the Rocky Mountain Chapter's Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators booth in the Pop Culture Classroom's Kids' Lab, and moderating a couple of panels:

Conversations with Colorado KidLit Authors: Saturday 2:00pm-2:50pm - Theater 708 (Jason Henderson (Young Captain Nemo), Andrea Y Wang (Watercress), Polly Holyoke (Skyriders), Olivia Chadha (Rise of the Red Hand), Megan Freeman (Alone), and myself (There's a Zombie in the Basement))

Children's Book Editors Don't Look at Your Diploma: Saturday 6:00pm-7:00pm - Theater 708 (Kaz Windness (Bitsy Bat School Star), Lily Williams (Go With The Flow), Jessica Lanan (Jumper), and myself (There's a Zombie in the Basement))

All-Ages stage Presentation: Sunday 12:15-12:45pm - ALL AGE STAGE (me doing a reading of THERE'S A ZOMBIE IN THE BASEMENT along with an interactive monster drawing demo)

Otherwise, I'll be at the booth periodically, but mostly getting lots of steps in running badges to folks. This is the booth schedule:
